Chief Justice Georgina Wood is in Turkey along with other officials from the judiciary to learn first-hand, how their colleagues there have integrated ICT into their operations.The tour is to prepare the judiciary for landmark reforms they say will transform the administration of justice.The Director of Reforms and Projects at the Judicial Service, Sandra Thompson, said the programme was under the e-Ghana Project being implemented by the Ministry of Communications.She said if the programme goes through, it will be the first time “that the judiciary would have had a comprehensive reformation of its justice system.”According to her, the CJ and her team will be looking at how ICT can make the courts in Ghana very effective, reduce delays, mistakes and so on.The Communications Minister, Haruna Iddrissu told Joy Business the study tour is in line with the government’s efforts to modernize the judiciary.“Apart from expanding access to justice and ensuring speedy adjudication of cases, one of the unique things we learnt this morning is the prompting system where a judge… through an ICT system can be prompted to avoid initiating an action on a case that he has no jurisdiction.”He said a major challenge that will affect the incorporation of ICT in Ghana’s judicial system is the physical infrastructure. “I think it is inadequate, insufficient and that has to be addressed quickly.”The team is expected back this weekend.Source: Joy News/Ghana
