The Convention People’s Party has welcomed the appointment of Kwasi Appiah as the 35th coach of the Black Stars.
The CPP per a statement signed by Nii Armah Akomfrah, Director of Communication congratulated the new coach on his appointment and applauded his career as a great footballing son of Ghana.
“His story is one that serves as an example to all – dedication and perseverance in whatever area one chooses in life. He has earned his place having served in the various capacities of the sport. As a player he was part of the Kotoko Team that won the Africa Clubs Championship cup in 1983, He has rendered service to country as a player for the Black Stars for more than 10 years, starting in 1981. He was the immediate captain before Abedi Pele in 1992.
“As a coach he has been Assistant Coach since 2008 and part of the Black Stars technical coaching team at the 2010 FIFA World cup in South Africa.
“In appointing him we hope the GFA has finally seen the light and accepts that as a country we are capable of managing football. The appointment also carries a strong message to young Ghanaians and future generations that we certainly have the right to manage or mismanage our affairs. This is important for nation building and for our national self esteem.”
The CPP expressed hope that the GFA will see the light also when it comes to remuneration and will not discriminate against Kwasi Appiah and seek to award him a lesser package on the grounds that he is Ghanaian.
“The appointment is very much in line with what we believe the core values of our society should be based on – a high sense of community and a development process based on self-reliance.
“Not only does football benefit and grow from it but Ghana grows and develops.”
