The Constitution Review Commission has presented its recommendations to President John Mills calling for the final document to be perceived not as a political document but a developmental one. Chairman of the Commission Prof Albert Fiadjor said the recommendations of the Commission are aimed at promoting unity and improving the living standards of the people. In a three-point bullet, the chairman outlined the objectives of the recommendations of the CRC. “1.That, every action and recommendation of the Commission must have an overriding aim the promotion of the unity and cohesion of the nation. 2. That every action and recommendation of the Commission must aim at contributing to the attainment of a better standard of living for the people of Ghana in general. 3. The review exercise must move the constitution from a political document to a developmental document, shifting from the politics of democracy to economics of democracy so that Ghanaians will look at the constitution as the source of renewed hope for the future,” he said. According to him, a total of 83,161 submissions were received after which a fully transparent and national review exercise was conducted. He said the submission and the reviews cover four thematic areas which are clearly indicated in the report. President John Mills applauded the efforts of the Commission for the excellent work they have done. “I will like on behalf of our dear nation to express our deepest gratitude to the members of the Constitution Review Commission for the excellent work that they have done." He said he appreciated the work done by the Commission in collating the views of Ghanaians abroad and those in Ghana.
