Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Foundation Ghana is organizing series of seminars to train organization on the importance of the social responsibilities in the country.
The two day event forms part of effort by CSR Foundation and the Ghana Standards Authority to promote CSR as a standard practice in the country.
Speaking at the event, Head of Marketing Department of the University of Ghana Business School Professor Robert Hinson said corporate social responsibility is a service responsibility hence organizations must offer quality service to its clients.
He underscored the need for organizations to go beyond their legal obligations to manage the impact they have on the environment and society they operate.
Prof. Hinson urged organizations to conduct a careful situational analysis in order to choose the corporate social initiatives that are best aligned to their mission and vision.
He also noted that corporate social initiatives included not only the traditional practice of corporate philanthropy but could also encompass a variety of forms ranging from corporate support for training and educating adults and youth in local communities.
“Developing a successful philanthropic programme will involve setting priorities, determining levels of contribution, having a communication plan and establishing a tracking system. Each step is equally important and must be accorded the same attention in order to have a successful programme” he added.
Prof. Hinson advised the organizers of the seminar; CSR Foundation and Ghana Standards Authority to partner firms to undertake any corporate social initiative and analyze the kind of social initiative they can engage in.
On his part, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the CSR Foundation, Joseph Emmanuel Allotey-Pappoe explained the motive for the seminar.
He said the seminar was the first in series aimed at creating awareness of organizations and civil societies to the major responsibilities of CSR.
Mr Allotey-Pappoe said the Foundation was a non-governmental organization aimed at offering training on CSR to organizations, organized CSR awards advocacy with its core values of sustainability, transparency, accountability, integrity and responsiveness.
