Twenty one year old cyclist Isaac sackey of Young Stars club has wrestled the yellow jersey from William Nartey of HM (His Majesty) club in Sunyani and went on to keep it in Tamale. After a 115km race from the garden city, he made a time of 3:03 seconds and was the toast of cycling enthusiast in the Brong Ahafo region in the cowbell bell tour du Ghana on Sunday.
In an interview he expressed his joy at winning the prestigious yellow Jersey and promised to retain his yellow jersey. “I want to thank God, cowbell and my team mates, I didn’t fall and we made it safe to the end and I will retain my jersey in Tamale”, he told JOY Sports
Isaac sackey became the first cyclist in the 2012 edition of the Cowbell national cycling tour to hold on to the yellow jersey, by riding with consistent speed, endurance and power in a heated circuit race in Tamale.
The connoisseurs of the game put their money behind Samuel Anim who is a senior Team mate of Isaac, who was the favorite to win the stage with ease considering his recent accomplishment a month ago in the Togo capital(lome), where he was the winner of the Red Jersey(most aggressive rider).
Isaac maintained a steady pace with the leading peleton (leading group of riders) and fending off all the attacks by his opponents in the absence of his team captain Samuel Anim who struggled behind with a series of mechanical problems during the race but managed to the cross the finish line in style.
The first five stages saw non of the competitors taking over the green and red jersey away from Samuel Anim. The best youngest rider Victor Cudjoe of all stars finally lost his white jersey to Isaac sackey of in Sunyani.
Samuel Anim has earned most awards in terms of his jersey win exploits. As at the end of the fifth stage he has won 2900 GH cedis followed by Isaac sackey with 1000gh.
