A 48-year-old man who was presumed dead and whose funeral rites have already been performed has resurfaced
Kweku Anokye returned to his family in the Eastern Region after nearly 22 years.
He has been receiving treatment at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
His sudden appearance has evoked fear among residents and family members with strange glances from people who thought he had died.
He is now facing difficulties integrating into the community of Akyem Bomso because a lot of people think he is a ghost.
Joy News’ Anna Agyepong caught up with Kweku Anokye’s uncle who escorted the former inmate to the Accra Psychiatric hospital for a check-up.
Kojo Amoako said since Anokye was brought to the hospital over two decades ago, no family member ever visited him.
According to him, 12 years after the patient was dumped at the mental hospital, reports received by the family indicated the authorities at the hospital had discharged some patients and killed the rest.
The family then concluded that once Anokye had not returned, he had been killed and proceeded to perform a lavish funeral for him.
To the bewilderment of everybody, Anokye was brought home as part of the hospital’s policy to discharge treated patients in order to decongest the facility.
Since then Anokye has been viewed with suspicion and fear.
