A desperate victim of the Tema Development Corporation demolition exercise, who is now putting up in a mosquito net with his five month old baby, is seeking urgent government support to save him and his family from the deplorable conditions they are going through.

According to Abraham Tawiah, the tent, which provided temporary shelter after their chamber and hall apartment was flattened, was also taken away leaving his wife and five months old baby with no shelter other than the mosquito net.

With the heavy rainstorm, late Friday afternoon, Tawiah is completely shattered and does not know where to resettle his wife and five children at least for the time being.

"What to eat is even a problem" he said in broken sobs with his eyes laden with tears.

He was speaking on Joy FM's Ghana Connect programme hosted by Evans Mensah.

Abraham Tawiah was one of several hundreds of victims, whose houses were pulled down in a demolition exercise supervised by gun-wielding police and military personnel last week.

According to him, he had been living in the chamber and hall apartment for the past 14 years until it was flattened only last week.

He said the tent, which was given to them by the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) after their house was demolished was also forcibly taken away from them, leaving his family at the mercy of the harsh weather.

As Tawiah wail over the destruction of his property, residents at Adjen Kotoku have also begun a desperate appeal to government to stop an impending demolition exercise of their properties.

The Ga West Municipal Assembly has issued an ultimatum to the residents to move as plans to relocate traders at the Central Business District in Accra to Adjen Kotoku nears implementation.

One of the residents, Joseph Fankibi told Evans Mensah on Ghana Connect that he has all the requisite documents to the land, yet his house has been earmarked for demolition.

Displaying the documents, Fankibi said government must intervene before he and his family end up on the streets.

Meanwhile, the Tema Municipal Assembly says they are taking steps to alleviate the plight of residents.

While disagreeing with the view that the demolition exercise was without human face, the MCE said they are taking steps to integrate the families of the victims into the society.
