A 32-year old unemployed man, Charles Danjimah, whose escape from police custody at Twifo Praso resulted in the dismissal of a policeman on duty at the charge office, is back in the hands of the law enforcement agencies.
Ironically, Danjimah was re-arrested by General Constable Clifford Ataglo, the policeman who was dismissed for his escape.
Danjimah has since been arraigned before the Twifo Praso District Magistrate's Court presided over by Mr Seth Kofi Bio-Nyamekye, which has jailed him two years with hard labour.
Constable Ataglo is said to have arrested Danjimah in his hideout at Assin Praso and escorted him to the Twifo Praso Police Station for investigation and prosecution.
The facts of the case as given by the prosecutor, Chief Inspector George Okine, are that Danjimah was placed in custody at the Twifo Praso police cells in November, 2006, for threat of life.
While in custody, the convict behaved abnormally so he was sent to the Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital for medical examination.
While awaiting the medical report, Danjimah, who had allegedly smeared his entire body with human excreta on November 27, 2006, violently pushed Constable Ataglo to the floor, when he opened the cells to give the prisoners their food.
The convict, who was wearing only his pants, then took to his heels and escaped to an unknown destination.
The Police Administration charged Constable Akaglo with misconduct and after service enquiry, he was summarily dismissed from the Police Service.
Ataglo, who had travelled across the length and breadth of the country in search of the convict, had a tip-off that he was hiding at Assin Praso.
He, therefore, travelled to Assin Praso on March 12, this year, spotted Danjimah, managed to apprehend him and escorted him to Twifo Praso, where he handed him over to the Station Officer at the police station.
After the police had completed their investigations, the convict was arraigned before the local District Magistrate's Court, which found him guilty and consequently sentenced him to two years' imprisonment with hard labour without the option of a fine.
Meanwhile, Constable Ataglo has appealed to the Police Administration to reinstate him, since he had exerted all efforts to re-arrest the criminal.
