An Assin Foso Magistrates’ court has fined Michael Dadzie, a driver GH¢60 for a traffic offences and escaping from police custody.
Dadzie who pleaded guilty to parking and picking passengers at an unauthorized place, failing to send his vehicle to the police station and escaping from lawful custody, would serve two months imprisonment in default.
Mr Joseph Blay, presiding also ordered Dadzie to render an
apology to the Assin Foso branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU).
Prosecuting, Police Superintendent Godact Hlordzi told the court that on May 8, this year, Dadzie driving a Nissan Urvan bus from Cape Coast to Assin Praso, picked up some passengers at a spot near the entrance of the Assin-Foso lorry park.
He said Dadzie was confronted by the secretary and other officials of the local branch of the GPRTU, who boarded the vehicle with Sergeant Kwame Gyimah, a GPRTU guard and ordered him to drive to the police station but he refused.
Superintendent Hlordzi said instead Dadzie drove to the Foso Training College and the GPRTU officials called in the police who came and instructed Dadzie to drive to the police station but he refused.
The prosecution said Dadzie later came with the bus owner to the police station and while being taken to the charge office to be detained he took to his heels and was apprehended after a hot chase.
