The headmaster of Duu Basic School in the North East Region, Nuhu Fuseini is seeking assistance to support his school.
Located in the West Mamprugu District, the school has a student population of about 1,000 children who currently sit on the floor during instructional hours.
According to the headmaster, Duu School is facing several challenges, including broken doors, dilapidated roofing sheets, and various other deficiencies.
Speaking in an interview with Joy FM on the Super Morning Show he mentioned that "the school has so many problems that we think it has become beyond our solution."
"And if we don’t put it to the public we may not get the solution, I’m only hear to appeal for support for the school” he added.
He emphasized that the school's primary issue is a shortage of furniture.
Despite the support from former students in Accra who provided 20 dual desks, it remains insufficient for the junior high school, lower primary, and upper primary levels, all of which still require additional furniture.
On March 4, alumni of Duu Basic and JHS supported their alma mater with 20 desks. These former students, who also sat on the same floor over 20 years ago, led by their president, Zakari Bukari, pooled together resources to purchase the desks.
He further noted that, beyond the furniture shortage, the school is confronted with water crises.
“In fact since the inception of the school, there is no borehole in the school, the children always trek all the way from the school to the nearby borehole closer to the health center, which they always cross the road which is very risky to their life.
“Because vehicles are always passing and it can cause an accident. So we appeal for support to that if we could get a borehole at the primary, because they have much population, or the junior high school to is better for us “ he added.
He mentioned that the school lacks connection to the national electricity grid, hindering the possibility of conducting computer studies.
“We need electricity to be connected to the school so that we can have light to learn when we are supported with computers and other activities that demand electricity.
Mr. Nuhu highlighted several challenges faced by the school, including broken doors and windows, leakages in the building during rainfall due to faulty parts on the roofs, and cracked floors.
“We need some repairs, some of them are even major not minors “he said
“We need all hands on deck to support us provide the needs of the school in other for the student to sit comfortably and learn and achieve academic excellence which we all yarns for”.
