The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has apologized for Sunday’s power outages in some parts of Accra, which it blamed a faulty transformer.
The ECG came under fierce criticisms from consumers following power interruptions in areas such as Madina, Teshie-Nungua, and Burma Camp during the Ghana Black Stars match against Serbia on Sunday.
But the Director of Operations at the ECG Tetteh Okyna told journalists, at an emergency press conference Monday at its sub-station in Achimota, that the power outages were due to a technical fault.
“Around a minute to 11 pm, half of the station went off because of a blast in the panel…one of our voltage transformers got blasted and that affected the whole eastern bank over here.”
Tetteh Okyna said the company is working hard to resolve the problem.
