The Energy Ministry has ignited an ambitious future following the drilling of the first oil from the Jubilee South East Area.

Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh in a celebratory disclosed this at the Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel on Friday, September 8.

In his address, the Manhyia South MP expressed an unwavering commitment to the nation's prosperity, emphasising that the Jubilee South East project is just the beginning of a series of successes.

He revealed that there are ongoing discussions about a crucial gas sales agreement, poised to elevate the country's profits and support electricity delivery through domestic natural gas.

“As a Ministry, we remain committed to supporting the negotiation of the gas sales agreement to give a further boost to the oil and gas sector, especially the aspect of tapping into domestic natural gas to, among other benefits, power electricity delivery in the country,” he said.

Dr. Prempeh affirmed, highlighting that 90% of the workforce involved in the Jubilee South East project are Ghanaians.

This commitment to local employment, he added, will transform lives and revitalise Ghana's economy.

The event was graced by President Nana Akufo-Addo and the Board Chairman of Tullow PLC, Phuthuma Nhleko.

The occasion signified a turning point for Ghana's energy sector, with the new oil production expected to boost the Greater Jubilee Field's output to over 100,000 barrels per day, a significant leap toward increased dividends for the nation.

On his part, Mr. Phuthuma Nhleko showered praise on Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his visionary leadership.

He recognised Dr. Prempeh's instrumental role in briefing President Akufo-Addo on the project, facilitating constructive discussions with stakeholders and approving the Greater Jubilee Plan of Development (PoD).

"I want to commend the Energy Minister for his excellent role," Mr. Nhleko said.

"He assured the nation that Tullow and its partners remain steadfast in their commitment to optimising production in the field and fostering sound investor relations with the government," he added.

Prior to the grand commemorative lunch, a high-profile delegation, including the President, the Energy Minister, senior officials representing Jubilee partners, and government dignitaries, visited the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah.

This offshore excursion provided an invaluable opportunity for a comprehensive briefing on the ambitious Jubilee project.

The delegation received a detailed account of the project's details and its pivotal role in Ghana's energy landscape.
