Ghanaians have been advised to exercise restraint during their political campaigns to ensure decorum and a violence-free general election in December this year. The MP for Odododiodoo, Mr Jonathan Tackie Komme, said this at a get-together at Swalaba in Accra to mark the 10th anniversary of the Asafoatse Nettey Social Club on Saturday. He called on the people to take a cue from the recent general elections in Kenya and to avoid all situations that could lead to violence to ensure the development of the country's democracy. Mr Tackie Komme who was the guest of honour at the function appealed to members of the community who would be serving as polling station assistants and other electoral officers to work diligently to guarantee a free and fair election that would be acceptable to all. The MP announced his bid for re-election and said he had used more than half of his share of the Common Fund and other assistance for the provision and development of education, including infrastructure and the establishment of Computer Laboratories in a number of schools in the area. He commended members of the Club for participating in communal labour and cleanup exercises and appealed to them to take the education of their children seriously. Mr Tackie Komme said he was in contact with some Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO), both within and outside the country to assist towards the socio-economic development of the area. The Chairman of the Asafoatse Nettey Club, Mr Ezzard Abbey, said there were plans to transform the group from a social association into an NGO. The Founder, Mr Okoe Badu, said the group was started in 1997 with eight members as a playing cards club and developed into a social one and now had a membership of about 80. He commended the MP for assisting the Club when he was an Assembly Member and within the two years he has been in parliament after a by-election in 2005.Source: GNA
