The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for the Evalue Gwira Constituency in the 2008 elections says he will go to jail if the party does not help him settle a loan he took to fund his campaign. Peter Addy Kojo says he took the loan of GH¢10,000 to fund his campaign for the seat, hoping to win. Unfortunately, he lost to the NPP’s Kathrine Afeku. Now he wants his party, which is in power to help him offset the loan and remove a noose from his neck. Mr Addy Kojo is also disappointed that for close to two years in office, the party he campaigned vigorously for in the last elections, has not considered him for any appointment to assuage his pain after he lost the elections. According to him, all the Parliamentary candidates in the Western Region who lost elections were placated with appointments but he was left out, worsening his plight. The failed Parliamentary candidate told Joy News’ Sammy Darko he would not have complained had he not lost his job at the University of Education, Winneba. He would not clearly explain the circumstances surrounding his dismissal. Mr Addy Kojo said he still has about GH¢8,300 outstanding amount to pay and hopes the party will hear his pleas. But he has some waiting to do as the party does not appear to have any immediate plans to help him out of his predicament. The National Organiser of the NDC, Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan told Joy News’ Evans Mensah, the party does not understand why and how Mr Addy Kojo incurred the debt he is currently grappling with. According to him, all candidates contesting the Parliamentary elections on the ticket of the party were given a certain amount of money for their campaigns and questions why Mr Kojo went for a loan. Mr Gyan also chided the failed Parliamentarian for going public with the issue and advised him to revert to the party’s structures to address his problems.
