Ekow Ezieh, a farmer from Takoradi, was on Wednesday remanded in police custody by a circuit court in Cape Coast for allegedly possessing leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Ekow, who pleaded not guilty, is to re-appear on October 14.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kingsford Ockom told the court presided over by Mr Richard Asiedu Badu that the complainant, a police constable at the Accra Regional Headquarters, arrested Ezieh on September 12, when he was about to board a vehicle at Twifo-Praso.
He alleged that while waiting for the bus to get full, the policeman spotted Ezieh, who was also on the same bus carrying a black polythene bag, whose contents smelled of Indian hemp.
Chief Inspector Ockom said the policeman, on suspicion, immediately asked to see the contents of the polythene bag, but Ezieh attempted to bolt but was arrested.
