South African Fashion Week (SAFW) Spring/Summer 2019 saw a flurry of fabulous clothes being paraded down the runway as some of the country's top designers showed off their latest luxury collections.
Here are five major fashion trends that we spotted during the SAFW shows that we absolutely loved — and you will too!
1. SHEER BRILLIANCE
We adore the way see-through fabrics add a hint of sex appeal to even the most sophisticated looks.
In their Spring/Summer 2019 collections, designers Clive Rundle and Gert-Johan Coetzee took sheers to the next level by teaming them with pleats and ruffles.
The result? A great play of texture and volume that adds interest and allure to an outfit.

2. BELT IT OUT
Fabric bands and leather belts were used to cinch in the waist of suit blazers, jumpsuits and oversized shirts. We were particularly enamoured by the designs that featured built-in belts.

3. HATS OFF
Bucket hats and fisherman hats - a less rigid bucket hat - featured in almost every collection, officially making them the new wardrobe staple for this spring and summer.

4. COLUMNS OF COLOUR
The impact of a monotone ensemble cannot be understated. It's strikingly elegant, figure flattering and as an added bonus, wearing a single colour top-to-toe makes you look taller!

5. JUST RELAX
Relaxed silhouettes make for an easy and cool look. The success of pulling off this look is layering separates in a single colour, paying special attention to proportion.
