In a bid to bolster Ghana's fiscal standing and drive economic development, the Finance Minister, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, has emphasised the critical role of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in enhancing tax collection and revenue generation.
During his recent visit to the Aflao Sector Command on Friday, Dr Adam underscored the imperative for customs officers to redouble their efforts and uphold their mandate in collecting taxes and duties.
He stressed the pivotal position of the Customs Division as a key stakeholder in the revenue mobilization framework of the Finance Ministry.
He urged customs officials to exhibit dedication and diligence to meet the ambitious revenue target set for the fiscal year, amounting to GH₵146 billion. The realisation of this target, Dr Adam said, is essential for financing the diverse developmental needs of the nation.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner-General of GRA, Julie Essiam, outlined strategic plans aimed at bolstering staff welfare and equipping customs officers with the necessary logistics to optimise revenue collection efforts.
The Commissioner-General's remarks underscored the GRA's commitment to enhancing operational efficiency within the Customs Division, thereby facilitating the achievement of revenue targets.
Brigadier General Ayorrongo, the Commissioner of the Customs Division, urged the Aflao Sector Command to surpass their revenue collection targets, emphasising the importance of exceeding expectations in contributing to national development.

In response, the Sector Commander of Aflao, Joseph Allan, assured of the command's unwavering commitment to maximising revenue collection efforts.
He affirmed that the sector would spare no effort in ensuring the fulfillment of its mandate while striving to exceed set targets.
The visit by the Finance Minister to the Aflao Sector Command serves as a testament to the government's proactive approach towards optimising revenue generation and fostering economic growth.
With concerted efforts from all stakeholders, including customs officials, the Finance Ministry remains optimistic about achieving its revenue targets and steering Ghana towards sustained progress and prosperity.
