A fire outbreak has ravaged over 100 makeshift structures housing squatters at Aboabo Extension in Kumasi on Friday.
The fierce blaze tore through the congested cluster of wooden structures near the Mighty Royal International School.
Community members made early attempts to douse the flames with buckets of water while awaiting the arrival of firefighters.

A rapid intervention by the fire service averted what could have become a major disaster. The swift containment efforts successfully confined the blaze to an estimated quarter-hectare area preventing it from spreading to nearby permanent homes and other vulnerable structures in the community.
According to officials of the Ghana National Fire Service, two pumps from the Manhyia and KNUST Fire Stations were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“The Manhyia tender arrived at 9:55 a.m., initiating professional firefighting efforts before reinforcements from KNUST joined to bring the situation under control at 10:21 a.m. The blaze was fully extinguished by 10:28 a.m,” said a statement from the fire command.
Although the fire resulted in the complete loss of all 107 wooden structures and their contents, GNFS confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded.
The Service described the outcome as a testament to the combined quick response of both residents and firefighters.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
