The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in partnership with Tribe Culture Fest, has unveiled a nationwide public viewing initiative ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The initiative, dubbed “16×16”, was launched at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 27, 2026, alongside the official unveiling of the Tribe Culture Fest.
Former Black Stars players Anthony Baffoe, Majeed Waris, Kwame Ayew and Augustine Arhinful were in attendance at the event.
The “16×16” initiative seeks to take the World Cup experience to all 16 regions of Ghana through free public viewing centres, ensuring wider access and participation.
Chief Executive Officer of the GTA, Maame Efua Houadjeto, emphasised the need for inclusivity, noting that not every Ghanaian can afford to travel to watch the tournament abroad.
“It is not every Ghanaian who can travel to watch the World Cup. We are bringing the experience to every region so that no one is left out,” she said.
She added that the initiative will also serve as a platform to promote tourism across the country.
“When we come to your region, it will not only be about football. We will also engage communities to showcase their tourism potential.”
Chief Executive Officer of Tribe Culture Fest, Nana Boateng Gyimah, highlighted the broader cultural and economic impact of the project.
“This is about bringing the World Cup to every Ghanaian. Beyond the matches, there will be food, fashion, music and arts,” he stated.
He further noted that the initiative will create economic opportunities in various regions, reducing the need for fans to travel to Accra to enjoy the tournament experience.
“There will be no need to travel to Accra to experience the World Cup. The experience is coming to your region, creating opportunities for people to benefit economically,” he added.
The event also attracted key stakeholders including Donya Eldridge and featured plans for live viewing activities, including Ghana’s international friendly against Austria, as well as performances from Olivetheboy.
Organisers say the “16×16” initiative will run throughout the World Cup period, with activations across all regions aimed at promoting tourism, fostering national unity, and deepening community engagement
