The Winneba Magistrate Court, has sentenced a 22-year-old fisherman to 12 months imprisonment for unlawful entering and stealing a motorola V.C.3 mobile phone valued at GH¢150 belonging to his co-tenant.
Kwame Amissah, the fisherman pleaded guilty to the offence.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Paul Adamah, told the court presiding over by Mr Ali Baba Abature that the complainant of the case is a student of the University of Education, Winneba, who lives in the same house with the accused.
He said on October 2, 2008 at about 2200 hours, the complainant locked his door and slept in the veranda.
Chief Inspector Adamah said the student later heard unusual noise and got up to find his door opened.
He said when the complainant entered the room he saw Kwame Amissah standing there and when questioned he was not able give any tangible reasons but attempted to escape.
Chief Inspector Adamah said neighbours, who heard the noise, came out from their rooms and assisted to apprehend Amissah.
He said the accused was later searched and the Motorola V.C 3 mobile phone was found in his pocket. He was therefore handed over to the police.
