Fishermen in Elmina have blocked the road linking Cape Coast and Takoradi, leaving many passengers stranded.
They also reportedly vandalised property of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem District Assembly.
The fishermen were protesting against a law prohibiting them from using flash lights to fish at night.
They complained that harvest has substantially been affected by the law and have asked the government to take a second look at it.
Joy FM's Central Regional correspondent Richard Kojo Nyarko who visited the scene said the protesters numbering about 800 blocked the road with stones, blocks, chairs, sticks and other items at the Elmina Junction.
He said the police threw tear gas to disperse the demonstrators who have now gone into hiding.
Commuters who complained bitterly about how the actions have affected their movement were assisting the police to remove the road blocks.
