The Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Donkor, has confirmed the arrest of five suspects in connection with a violent robbery attack at Nkaseim in the Ahafo Region.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, January 29, COP Donkor said the arrests were the result of sustained intelligence gathering and forensic investigations by the Ghana Police Service.
"The Ghana Police Service has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery attack at Nkaseim in the Ahafo Region," COP Donkor stated.
The suspects, Mutara Kofi, Mahamadu Sagio alias Salifu, Shaibu Issah Jallo alias Jibo, Abdul Suleman, and Bukari Sulley alias Tailor, were arrested on separate days for their alleged roles in the attack, she said.
According to COP Donkor, the robbery occurred on December 2, 2025, when the suspects, together with other accomplices armed with weapons, blocked the Goaso–Tepa Road and simultaneously attacked the Nkasem Police Station, Adwumapa Cocoa Buying Company, Kobby Gold Buying Company, and the Asutifi Rural Bank area at Nkaseim.
"During the attack, the assailants made away with two AK-47 service rifles. They also stole cash amounts from the bank, GH¢14,000 from the cocoa buying company, and GH¢12,000 from the gold buying company," COP Donkor said. "During the robbery, one employee of the Adwumapa Cocoa Buying Company was shot and injured."
She explained that following sustained intelligence-led operations, the Anti-Robbery Unit arrested Mutara Kofi, aged 35, a commercial tricycle rider, on January 16, at a location known as Atta ne Atta near Nkaseim.
"The suspect admitted his involvement in the robbery," COP Donkor said.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Mahamadu Sadio, aged 45, an illegal miner and resident of Nkasem. COP Donkor also confirmed the arrests of Shaibu Issah Jalo, alias Jibo, aged 28, a trader at Chereponi, and Abdul Suleman, aged 40, a herdsman at Tanga near Karaga in the Northern Region.
"On January 25, another suspect, Bukari Sulley, alias Tailor, aged 25, a trader at Alaba, Kumasi, was also arrested in connection with the robbery," COP Donkor stated.
She added that efforts have been intensified to arrest the suspected gang leader, who is believed to be in possession of the stolen AK-47 rifles and other firearms used during the robbery.
"Two other suspects, Dauda and Mohammed Ali, are currently on the run," COP Donkor said.
She used the occasion to urge the public to take personal security seriously.
"I would like to take this opportunity to urge us all to take our personal security seriously," COP Donkor said.
She further cautioned the public to remain vigilant against cyber-related crimes.
"We urge all and sundry to remain vigilant against cyber crimes and crimes perpetrated online. Exercise due caution on digital and social media platforms. Avoid sharing personal or financial information with unknown individuals, and be wary of unsolicited messages or calls requesting sensitive details," COP Donkor stated.
The CID Director-General also advised motorists, particularly those involved in vehicle sales, to stay alert.
"Motorists are also advised, and especially those involved in vehicle sales, to stay alert at all times, especially when driving at night or in isolated areas," she said. "Ensure that vehicles are properly secured, avoid picking up unknown individuals, and be cautious when stopping for distress signals that may be staged."
