The Ga West District Assembly has ordered developers of a private mortuary at the ACP estate in Pokuase to stop work immediately.
It follows a demonstration Thursday by residents who are opposed to the siting of the facility for health and psychological reasons.
The residents on Thursday charged on the police station in the area to demand the release of two of their colleagues who were arrested in the demonstration and also marched to the MCE’s office with the same demand.
The MCE Nii Armah Tackie told the residents his office had ordered work on the project to be halted to allow the sanitation committee to conduct further assessment.
