The President of the Ghana chapter of the All Nigeria Community has congratulated athletes who have made Nigeria proud by winning medals in the ongoing All African Games being held in Accra, Ghana.
Chief Bayo Albert Asaolu said he was enthused about the performance of the athletes, and thus commended the technical teams for the discipline exhibited by the athletes.
"I watched our boys and girls showing serious commitment at all their events, even those who could not win medals gave a good account of themselves. As we all know, this is our Olympic Games in Africa. I am truly impressed with the performances of our sportsmen and women," he said in a statement copied to Myjoyonline.com.
Mr Asaolu promised to provide all the necessary support to push the athletes to win more honours and urged them not to relent in their efforts.
The ANC leader commended the organizing body and Ghana on the state-of-the-art facilities provided for the All African Games.
"I live in Accra here, I couldn't imagine the edifice that has been put up at the University of Ghana Stadium. Ghana is indeed prepared," Chief Asaolu said.
He concluded by encouraging Africans to use the event to foster strong relationships among the member states.
Egypt leads the medal table with 85 medals; 48 gold, 19 silver, and 18 bronze, while Nigeria ranks second with 41 medals; 16 gold, 10 silver, 15 bronze.
Algeria has a total of 55 medals, South Africa won 50 medals, and Mauritius has 7 medals.
