Brigadier General John Aduley Kwasie of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has been appointed Deputy Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNAMIL).
He takes over from Major General Carl Modey, a Ghanaian Senior Officer, who has been appointed Acting Commissioner of Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
Brig. Gen. Kwasie's appointment took effect from December 10, 2010.
A release signed by Lieutenant Commander A. La-Anyane of Public Relations Directorate of GAF copied to Ghana News Agency in Accra, said until his appointment, Brig. Gen. Kwasie was the Director General for International Peace Support Operations (IPSO) at the GAF Headquarters.
He is an experienced peacekeeper having served on missions in various capacities as Deputy Commanding Officer on two occasions with the Ghana Battalion (GHANBAT 2), ECOWAS Ceasefire and Monitoring Group in Liberia (ECOMOG) and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL GHANBATT 36).
In addition, Brig. Gen. Kwasie was a Commanding Officer of ECOMOG GHANBATT 10 and UNIFIL GHANBATT 46.
He is an old student of St John's School, and attended the Ghana Military Academy and Canadian Forces Officer Cadet School, Canada.
Brig. Gen. Kwasie is a graduate of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College and the National Defence University in Beijing, China.
