Patrick Agyapong, a Narcotics Control Officer of the Narcotic Control Commission, has urged Ghanaians to report drug couriers in the country.
Speaking to Joy Prime’s Asieduwaa Akumia on the Prime Morning show, Mr. Agyapong urged Ghanaians to be on the lookout for drug couriers and other individuals who devise various means to import narcotics drugs into the country.
“When you see somebody bringing in such products using illegal routes, please alert us and let us arrest them," he said.
As a way of curbing drug abuse in Ghana, Mr. Nicholas Tukun, Assistant Narcotics Control Officer stated that the commission collaborates with various agencies to educate the youth on the use of narcotics.
He added that , counseling services are provided to individuals who abuse drugs “so they see the need to either reduce it or even get out of it completely."
He emphasised that for individuals to be counseled, “you should be willing to stop and your family should be willing to support you come to terms with the effects of this drug”.
Senior Narcotics Control Officer and member of the team, Clara Botchway advised the public to visit the hospital when they feel sick for the right prescriptions to treat themselves. She also added that drug recommendations from friends should be avoided to prevent dangerous side effects of drugs that are harmful to one’s health.
