The Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has arrested 10 suspected drug peddlers during a special anti-drug operation conducted in parts of the Tamale metropolis.
The operation, carried out on March 13, 2026, by the Regional Special Operations Team, targeted areas identified as hotspots for drug-related activities within the metropolis.
The team, comprising 33 personnel, embarked on routine anti-drug surveillance and enforcement activities in suburbs including Gurugu, Gumani, Kanvilli and Gbela.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Alhassan Luckman Niendow, the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Police Command, told the media in Tamale during a press briefing that during the exercise, the team arrested 10 suspects believed to be involved in drug peddling activities in these areas.
He said the suspects were identified as Hamed Salim, 22; Imoro Rafiu, 20; Hamed Abdul Hakim, 27; Mohammed Kamaldeen, 28; Jamila Abdullah, 20; Kwame Joseph, 32; Kawara Francis, 50; Apeuri Kawara, 40; Abubakari, 56 and Adam Abdul Razak, 32.
He said some of the suspects were arrested with substances suspected to be Indian hemp while others were found with quantities of tramadol believed to be intended for sale.
He hinted that during the operation, the team also impounded three motorbikes suspected to have been used in drug peddling activities within the metropolis.
ASP Niendow added that all the suspects and the exhibits had since been placed in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
He reiterated the Police’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations to combat the sale and distribution of illicit drugs and maintain law and order in the region.
