A 30-year-old ginger farmer has been arrested by the Toase Police in the Ashanti Region for allegedly cutting off the hand of a 19-year-old suspected thief at Atwima Trabuom.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. when the suspect allegedly attempted to steal ginger from a farm. He was reportedly caught in the act by the farmer, during which his right hand was severed.
Speaking to local authorities, the Unit Committee Chairman for the area, Kwadwo Amankwa, disclosed that the injured suspect had left home on Friday night but returned in the early hours of Saturday with his hand missing.
“I saw the young man a few days earlier with both hands intact, but on Friday morning, I met him with his right hand severed. He mentioned the ginger farmer as the one responsible for the act,” he stated.
Mr. Amankwa further revealed that the suspect had allegedly gone to several ginger farms in the area before the incident occurred.
The police were subsequently informed, leading to the arrest of the farmer, who is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
