Some professional, family-oriented women based in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, have supported the Adullam Orphanage at Bediem, a suburb of Obuasi.
The group which is known as ‘Gold City Mummies’ (GCM), presented items such as toiletries, washing detergents, food valued at GH₵ 4,000 as well as a cash donation GH₵ 1,000 to the care home.
President of GCM, Rosemary Ampofo-Bekoe, said the donation was in honour of their patron, Nana Ampofo-Bekoe, Sustainability Manager for AngloGold Ashanti Ghana who perished in a road crash earlier this year.
She noted that the late Ampofo-Bekoe was a strong believer of sharing, caring for humanity and had the needy at heart.
It is also part of efforts to ensure that less privileged in the communities live decent lives, Madam Ampofo-Bokoe added.
The group, numbering 25, says they intend to reach out to the needy in their communities every quarter to the memory of the late patron.
Taking inspiration from hardworking, noble, resourceful, virtuous women, she indicated their determination to be better versions of themselves as women, to contribute positively to making their community a better place.
“Though we are sad, we are comforted by the words of Abraham Lincoln ‘in the end it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years’,” she said.
The Gold City Mummies were supported by some companies based in the Obuasi municipality including Cofkans Hotel Limited, Kilon Design and Build Limited, Gella Engineering and Golden Mainland Ghana Limited.
Receiving the items, the Manager of the home, Pastor James Sundia, thanked the group and urged them to continue supporting the less privileged.
