Government has imposed a seven hour curfew in Tamale following violent incidents that greeted the acquittal and discharge by a High Court of 14 Abudus charged with the murder of the Ya-Na Yakubu Andani. Angry Andani youth went on rampage in Tamale destroying party paraphernalia and setting the party offices on fire. But for the timely intervention of the police and military personnel the angry youth would have done worse. In pursuit of peace and tranquility, the government has imposed a curfew on the Tamale metropolis. The curfew starts at 11:00pm and ends at 6:00 am each day until reviewed or raised by government. But the youth in Tamale are protesting the curfew. Spokesperson of one of the youth groups in the region Mohammed Hamza told Joy News the curfew is unwarranted. He said the youth in the region are unhappy with the curfew but will respect it. Interior Minister, Benjamin Kumbuor says the curfew is by no means arbitrary, and not to curtail the freedoms of the people in Tamale. He said the curfew is to ensure law and order and will be reviewed when the situation improves. Story by Nathan Gadugah/Myjoyonline.com/Ghana
