The Nungua Mantse, Oboade Notse King Professor Odaifio Welentsi III, has been elected as the new President of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs (GARHC).
His election marks a significant leadership transition within the House, where he previously served as Vice President and acting President.
Professor Welentsi III stepped into the acting President role following the passing of the then Paramount Chief of the Shai Osudoku Traditional Area, Nene Aadegbor Ngmongmowuyaa Kwesi Animle VI, who held the presidency prior to his demise.
His elevation to President was made possible after the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, withdrew from the contest, paving the way for Welentsi III to assume the position unopposed.
As President, Professor Welentsi III will serve a four-year term, in accordance with Act 759 of 2008, which mandates elections for the presidency of the GARHC every four years.
The election reflects a commitment to maintaining stability and continuity within the traditional leadership structure of the Greater Accra Region.
Alongside him, Nene Tetteh Wakah III, the Paramount Chief of the Prampram Traditional Area, has been elected as the Vice President of GARHC.
Their elections were officially recognised in a ceremony where both leaders took the oath of office and the oath of secrecy, administered by Ms. Bacilia Adjei-Tawiah, a circuit court judge.
In her remarks after the oaths, Judge Adjei-Tawiah urged the newly elected leaders to utilize their positions to promote peace and development within their communities.
She also emphasized the importance of keeping chieftaincy matters free from litigation, encouraging a focus on dialogue and collaboration.
Expressing his gratitude, Professor Welentsi III thanked the chiefs for their trust in him as the new President.
He pledged to work diligently to foster unity and progress within the Greater Accra Region, aiming to address the challenges faced by the traditional leadership and the communities they serve.
“I consider this not just my personal victory, but a victory for all of us. While I will be assuming the role of President for the next term, I see it as a responsibility to be shared with all of you,” Professor Welentsi III said.
