Africa World Airlines (AWA) has resumed direct flights between Accra and Abidjan, restoring a key air link between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire nearly four years after the route was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The inaugural flight on the revived route took place on Monday, August 31, 2026, with a flight time of approximately one hour.
The service will run four times a week - on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays - offering travellers a direct connection between the two West African commercial hubs.
A relaunch ceremony was organised at the Accra International Airport with Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli State and Founder and Board Chairman of AWA, in attendance alongside a delegation from Asogli State.

Also present were Deputy Minister for Transport and Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey; Ghanaian diplomatic representatives; aviation authorities; and government officials from Côte d’Ivoire.
Speaking at the event, Togbe Afede XIV welcomed the route's return, stressing that stronger air connectivity was vital to deepening ties among African nations. He noted that AWA remains committed to easing travel, trade, and people-to-people connections across the continent.
The restored Accra - Abidjan route is expected to boost business and tourism between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, while giving travellers an additional direct flight option.
It is also anticipated to enhance trade, investment, and regional integration through improved air connectivity between the two countries.
For AWA, the route's revival is part of a broader strategy to expand its network across African destinations and strengthen its regional footprint.
The Accra - Abidjan service adds another vital link to AWA's regional operations as the airline pushes to improve connectivity across West Africa.
