The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has concluded a working visit to key health installations and traditional authorities in the Savannah Region, underscoring the government’s renewed commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure, service delivery, and resolving long-standing operational challenges in the sector.
In Damongo, the regional capital, the Minister inspected ongoing works at the Regional Hospital project. He assured stakeholders that construction will resume in early January.
He also expressed appreciation to traditional leaders for releasing 50 acres of land to support the development.
Mr Akandoh paid a courtesy call on the Yagbonwura at his palace, where the King honoured him with the title “Chief of Health” in recognition of his efforts to expand healthcare access nationwide.

At the Damongo Nursing and Midwifery College, the Minister pledged that training allowances for newly admitted students will be paid by the end of the month.
He commended both teaching and non-teaching staff of Health Training Institutions for their dedication to grooming future health professionals.
He later met with the Savannah Regional Coordinating Council, engaging the Regional Minister, District Chief Executives, and departmental heads on strategies to retain medical officers and enhance healthcare delivery across the region.
In Bole, the Minister visited the Bolewura, who reaffirmed the honorary title previously conferred by the Yagbonwura. During discussions, Mr Akandoh announced that construction of a new District Hospital for Bole will commence next year. The Chief pledged 20 acres of land to support the project.

At the Bole Nursing and Midwifery College, the Minister assured students and staff that officers from Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) will visit the school soon to help open bank accounts to streamline the payment of training allowances.
He also toured the Bole Hospital, where he pledged support to address the facility’s critical challenges as plans for the new hospital progress.
The Minister’s final stop was Salaga, where he inspected the abandoned Salaga Hospital project, which has been stalled since 2017. Mr Akandoh reiterated the government’s resolve to complete all outstanding health projects and assured the community that work on the facility will soon recommence.
During his visit, the Minister also joined the family of Calistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, to mourn the passing of his mother, Madam Salomey Ama Mahama.
