Former Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, has backed the decision of the Ghana Football Association to dismiss Otto Addo as Black Stars head coach with less than three months to the World Cup.

Otto Addo was sacked on Monday night following Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Germany in their second international friendly in March, ahead of the World Cup.

The senior national team had earlier suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria, which proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the coach.

However, sources have told JoySports that he was allowed to remain on the touchline for the Germany game.

Since qualifying for the World Cup, Otto has lost all four friendly matches, including a 2-0 defeat to Japan and a 1-0 loss to South Korea in November.

"It is a good call,” Kwadwo Baah said in an interview with Asempa FM.

"My concern now is ‘who are we employing?’

“Let's go for a top-notch coach. Let's dedicate good money for top class coaches. [Any top class coach] available for 200,000 USD monthly and can get us results, let's give it to him.

"There should be no nepotism appointment. We should get a World class coach."

Otto’s second stint with the Black Stars had come under heavy scrutiny after the Ghana FA made a U-turn to reappoint him in 2024, despite previously stating that the role required at least 15 years of coaching experience and a proven track record, criteria the former Dortmund talent scout did not meet.

The failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations further intensified criticism of his tenure.

Even Sports Minister Kofi Adams questioned his performance, stating: “If I tell you I am impressed with Otto Addo, then it means I do not know my job”.

Meanwhile, former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah, now with the Sudan national team, and ex-Morocco coach Walid Regragui are among the names being linked with the vacant position.

Up next, the Black Stars will travel to North America to face Mexico on May 22, before taking on Wales on June 2 as part of preparations for the World Cup.

Ghana has been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama, and will be aiming to reach the knockout stage for the first time since 2010.
