Living with albinism also means living with a lot of discrimination and stigmatization. Albinism is a disorder characterized by the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes due to absence or defect of an enzyme involved in the production of melanin. In Tanzania, and many other African countries, they are killed for ritual purposes…and in Ghana, they fear this unwarranted murder will soon happen if authorities don’t protect them. But why discriminate against people who only suffer from a skin disorder? In this documentary titled Discrimination of colour, Joy News’ Seth Kwame-Boateng visits the world of persons living with albinism and unveils the sheer discrimination they face on a daily basis.
