The newly appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has pledged his commitment to upholding professionalism and discipline within the Ghana Police Service.
Delivering his inaugural speech during his swearing-in ceremony today, Friday, March 14, at the Jubilee House, he assured Ghanaians of his dedication to strengthening law enforcement and fostering public trust.
"I approach this responsibility with the utmost seriousness, fully recognising the weight of expectations accompanying this role. In alignment with the transformation and modernisation of the service, I pledge to uphold the values, traditions, and culture of the Ghana Police Service," he stated.
COP Yohuno emphasised that his leadership would be guided by discipline and respect for seniority within the police hierarchy, in line with President Mahama’s resetting agenda.
He assured the President that professionalism, transparency, accountability, and fairness would be the foundation of his administration.
"I assure you that professionalism, transparency, accountability and fairness shall underpin my administration and focus of renewing attitudes by performance thereby positioning the service to meet the aspirations of our people and foster peace and security in our country," he added.
As part of his vision, he highlighted the importance of community policing and partnerships, stating that increased engagement with the public would be a key strategy in crime prevention and fighting.
"Community engagement, community policing, and partnership will be an essential strategy for communities to participate in crime prevention and fighting,
"I will strive to uphold the values and standards that have defined this office for generations. I will do everything within my power to ensure that our security remains responsive and proactive," he said.
