Former Ghana assistant coach George Boateng believes his coaching journey has prepared him to step into a managerial role, having gained invaluable experience over the past 12 years.
The Dutch-Ghanaian coach, who was assistant to Otto Addo during Ghana's qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, reflected on his growth and readiness to lead his own team.
“We qualified for the World Cup 2022 in Qatar; it was unbelievable for me as a coach to be in the World Cup,” Boateng told Tribal Football.
“I really enjoyed that experience, and it made me realise why people speak so highly about tournaments like the World Cup.”
Boateng, who served as Otto Addo’s deputy during Ghana's World Cup campaign, described his journey as a coach as a fulfilling learning curve.
“I have been coaching now for 12 years, and I have to say that it has been a great learning curve, a good journey filled with great moments,” he said.
Despite spending much of his career in assistant roles, the former Aston Villa midfielder believes he is now ready to take charge of a team.
“I have been an assistant in the last few roles that I have had, and right now, I feel that I am much more advanced as a coach. I have learned a lot, evolved myself, and I am ready now to take my own team,” he stated.
With an open mind about his next challenge, Boateng is eager to lead a club that aligns with his footballing philosophy, whether in Europe, the United States, or Australia. “I don’t mind, and I am up for a challenge as long as the club has the same philosophy as mine,” he said.
