Ex-France captain Marcel Desailly claims he was never interested in the Black Stars coaching job.
The 1998 World Cup winner who was heavily linked with the job after Serbian Goran Stevanovic was dismissed last month for failing to win the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
Early this week, the Ghana FA ended the speculations by naming assistant coach Kwesi Appiah as the substantive coach of the four-time continental champions.
It was reported that Desailly’s excessive demands-including appointing his own backroom staff-cost him the job.
But the AC Milan and Chelsea legend has revealed he was not harbouring any hope of coaching Ghana’s national team.
“I never expressed any interest in the job but I was very pleased and I want to thank him [Nyantakyi] and everyone that has been supporting me. But unfortunately, I was not in the market,” Desailly is quoted by the Finder Newspaper.
Desailly also dispelled rumours that he wanted a 100,000-Euro salary.
“It will never have been an issue of money for me to be Black Stars coach or not.”
