Personnel at the Ghana Police Service are yet to fully carry out a directive issued by the Interior Minister some few weeks ago for all service personnel to wear their name tags on their uniforms. Dr. Kwame Addo Kufour, Minister of Interior, says it will soon be an offense for Police personnel not to have their name tags and service numbers on their uniforms. In an interview with Joy News on Tuesday, Dr. Addo Kufour said it is in the national interest for service personnel to have some identification when carrying out their professional duties. Dr. Addo Kufour, however confirmed that some police personnel have already complied with the directive, and called on the others to follow suit. He added that the Inspector General of Police P.K. Acheampong will soon issue a statement from his office to compliment earlier directive from his ministry. The directive for Police Identification comes at a time when there is an upsurge in drug trade, armed robbery, some mysterious killings and allegations of bribery and corruption by some police personnel.
