The Executive Secretary of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB), Yaw Akrasi Sarpong, says he is considering resigning, because his men and systems he has put in place have failed him.Taking blame for lapses which led to the seizure of huge quantities of marijuana and cocaine from Ghana on two occasions last week in the United Kingdom, Mr Akrasi Sarpong told Joy FM in Accra yesterday that he was considering resigning because his men failed him "and their actions marred the image of NACOB."It's a big dent and I take personal responsibility. Who said I am not thinking about it [resignation]" he quizzed, adding, "We're going" to strengthen things..."Border officers at the Heathrow Airport in the UK made their biggest cannabis seizure in three years after containers arriving on an aircraft from Ghana last Monday September 24, 2012 were found to contain the drug.According to the London Evening Standard newspaper, the drug, which weighed around 1.5 tonnes and had a street value of £4.3 million, was found in three separate freight containers filled with fresh fruits and vegetables.In another incident a £750,000 haul of cocaine has been intercepted by customs officials at Heathrow stashed inside hollowed-out plantains in a huge shipment of fruit and vegetables from Ghana.Five officials of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) are being interrogated in connection with the seizure of the 1.5 tonnes of cannabis at the Heathrow Airport in London, United Kingdom.The officials were said to be on duty at the time the aircraft carrying the drug took off from the Aviance Cargo Village.Top officials of NACOB told the Daily Graphic that the interrogation was part of internal processes to establish how the drugs escaped the watch of officers who were on duty.
