A major fire outbreak has engulfed the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) warehouse in Tamale, causing significant damage to electrical equipment stored within the facility.
The blaze, which reportedly started around 4:00 pm from a nearby transformer, spread rapidly before emergency services intervened.
Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene and managed to bring the situation under control, preventing further destruction. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but authorities are assessing the extent of the damage to the affected equipment.

Addressing the media, NEDCo’s Public Relations Officer, Maxwell Kotoka, reassured the public that the fire would not result in any widespread power outages.
He confirmed that while the warehouse itself had lost electricity supply, other parts of the city remained unaffected.
“Supply to the warehouse has been affected, and so the warehouse itself doesn’t have power. But we are working around to see what we can do, and we believe that it has not affected any outside institution for now,” Mr Kotoka explained.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the full impact of the incident and to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Meanwhile, NEDCo has assured customers that efforts are underway to restore operations at the affected warehouse as soon as possible.
