A man accused of supplying Indian hemp in Tamale reportedly attempted to bribe police officers with GH¢20,000 to secure his release but was arrested and is currently in custody.
Lukman Karim, a farmer at Diare, a suburb of Tamale, was apprehended by the Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) on Friday, March 13, 2026, after officers received credible intelligence about his alleged activities.
“We monitored his activities and found that he was cultivating and supplying the substance to markets in Tamale,” a police source said.
According to the police, officers found two and a half large sacks of soya beans, suspected of concealing Indian hemp during the arrest.

“When we arrested him, he offered us GH¢20,000 to let him go, but we refused and proceeded with the arrest,” the police said.
Karim implicated one Alhaji Moro as his accomplice, and efforts are underway to apprehend him and dismantle the supply network.
The suspect and the exhibits have been handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
“The Northern Regional Police Command reassures the public of its commitment to intelligence-led operations against drug trafficking and related crimes,” the police said.
