Africa’s leading digital entertainment platform, IROKOtv has revealed that it will invest millions of dollars into the Ghanaian movie industry in the coming years.
The move, the company says, is part of effects to support local movies production and thus helping the local movie industry grow.
Jason Njoku, CEO of IROKOtv made this known during the official launch of the company’s services in Ghana at the Best Western Premier Hotel in Accra Wednesday.
He noted that his outfit is already spending thousands of dollars in supporting productions in the country and hopes to increase that support from 2018.
He noted that the investment will increase if there is enough trust between IROKOtv and movie producers in the country.
Launched by actress Jackie Appiah, IROKOtv has rolled out over 25 bright pink kiosks across Accra which will enable patrons to download Ghanaian and Nigerian movies and TV series directly onto their mobile devices, without data.
The kiosks can be found in areas including Accra Mall, A & C Mall, Oxford Street Osu, VVIP Circle, KFC Haatso, Pure Fire Ministry Achimota, Adenta SSNIT Fats, Accra Polytechnic, National Lottery, Accra Central and Lagos Avenue.
Ms Appiah said, “I have worked with IROKOtv since their early days and am so proud that they are now coming to Accra to bring even more amazing Ghanaian and Nollywood content to our fans here.”
“The IROKOtv app is really easy to use, the selection of movies is really impressive and now, especially with the free downloads from the kiosks, it makes life easier.
"Whether you’re in hair and makeup on-set, which is where I often catch up on my content, or you’re on the trotro headed to work, you can watch your favourite stars anytime, anywhere,” she added.
IROKOtv will be launching across Accra with a team of 30 people and the number is expected to increase to 140 by the end of November.
