A 27-year-old woman, Yaa Abi, was murdered in cold blood by her jealous husband, last Friday night at Manso-Asarekrom in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti region.
The incident has caused tension and misery in the village where the couple had been living since they got married.
The man, Kwame Atta, a galamsey operator, who is currently in police custody after he surrendered to the Antoakrom Police, also slashed his younger brother who tried to intervene during the incident.
The unnamed younger brother of the suspect is on admission at the Dominase Hospital receiving treatment, while the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Bekwai Government Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.
The 32-year-old illegal miner allegedly committed the crime after chasing the wife with a cutlass, while it was raining heavily in the community around 9:30pm on Friday.
Yaa Abi, a mother of two, was slashed with a cutlass at the back, neck, and hands by her husband, who had harboured hatred for the woman on allegations of infidelity. Bekwai Divisional Police Commander, Chief Supt. Comfort Boateng told Daily Guide.
According to her, a misunderstanding ensued between the couple about a month ago after the man accused Yaa Abi of having an extra-marital affair. The suspect's father later settled the issue.
The police boss narrated that the infidelity issue cropped up again last Friday, during which the suspect ran after the woman and jerked her with the cutlass he was holding, after which he slashed her several times as the deceased lost her footing on the muddy, slippery ground.
Kwame Atta killed the wife because he was angry with the wife for allegedly flirting with men in the village.
Chief Supt. Boateng said a full-scale investigation had been commenced to determine the next line of action to be taken by the police as the suspect remained in custody.
