A self-styled journalist has been apprehended by the Ashaiman Divisional Police Headquarters for defrauding 15 persons under the pretext of enlist­ing them into the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

The culprit, Albert Kumah Dotse, a resident of Sun City, a suburb of Adjei- Kojo near Ashaiman, was said to have his asked his victims to pay amount of GHC2,150 and GHCl9, 000 before enlisting them into the GIS.

Superintendent William Daah, Crime Officer of the Ashaiman Divisional Police Headquarters briefed Daily Guide in his office that two persons who reside at Kubreko and Zenu, all suburbs of Ashaiman, fell prey to the victim's ploy and paid the required amount to him.

According to him, the first victim paid the amount in full, while the second paid an amount of GHCl500 and added an rLg laptop to defray the total amount.

He explained that the suspect in order to get more victims extended his move to Vakpo, Hohoe, Kpando and many others areas in the Volta Region, collecting similar amount of money from persons who were eager to be enlisted in the service.

Superintendent William Daah, further noted the freelance journal­ist after receiving the various sums of monies was said to have disappeared into thin air and could not be traced.

He disclosed that the applicants who were elated to be enlisted into the serv­ice after receiving purport­ed appointment letters and prospectus from the sus­pect, called at the GIS headquarters in Accra with the documents only to be turned away.

He said on August 14, 2014, two of the victims lodged complaints with the police in Ashaiman, and his outfit started investiga­tion into the matter.

The police had infor­mation about the suspect's whereabouts and quickly liaised with the police in the area, where he was last Saturday apprehended at his hideout.

He was said to have admitted the offence in his caution statement.

The police crime officer explained that the suspect would be arraigned before court when investigations into the matter are con­cluded.
