Joy FM’s Super Morning Show host Kojo Yankson is not sitting in that soundproof, chilly, four walls of the iconic building on Faanofaa Street at Kokomlemle in Accra today.
Flanked by Group CEO of Data Bank, Kojo Addae Mensah, sports personality Mohammed Amin Lamptey, business woman, Mono Asampong, the SMS host has pitched camp a few meters from the sleepy sea at the Mayacova Beach this morning.
Sitting by a beautiful swimming pool with palm fronds swaying rhythmically to the calm, pristine sea waters, the panelists are discussing the curves and bumps on the road to success with Mr. Addae Mensah, Amin and Mono providing unique perspectives based on personal experiences.
Mr. Addae-Mensah said he had fallen many times but he has always risen because of an undying determination to succeed.
His secret, according to him, is reading and desiring to be excellent at whatever he does.
The banker expressed regret that many young Ghanaians do not cultivate the habit of reading or internalising whatever they read.
"It does not matter what grades you make in school; I didn't win any awards in school," he said.
What is important, according to Data Bank CEO, "are the life skills you learn in and outside school."
Amin Lamptey said for him the biggest problem, especially in the Zongo Community where he comes from, is the lack of role models.
He said many young people do not have anybody to look up to and are left on their own.
This situation must change, he maintained.
Mono Sampong, who is the CEO Go Study Abroad, said it took her 12 years of hard work, sacrifices and sleepless nights bring her business to where it is currently and yet some young want have it all overnight.
She expressed her frustrations at trying quite unsuccessfully to train and place young graduates for internships.
Virtually all of them wanted to be paid whilst interning - something she thought was rather unfortunate.
