Judicial Service workers to strike over unpaid allowances

The Judicial Workers Union says it will be forced to call a strike if government failed to pay its members' allowances later this month.

The workers say they met management in March over their concerns but nothing has been done.

The workers say they have not received their allowances for the first quarter despite assurances from management.

They have therefore resolved that if their allowances are not paid by 15^th of May, they will take series of action including the wearing of red arm bands and hoisting of red flags in all their offices nationwide from May 18.

Mr. Alex Nartey, National Coordinator of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) of the Judicial Service, told Joy News if by “Wednesday [May 20] we don’t see anything then there would be a total strike”.

The impending strike would grind the judicial services to a halt, he noted, adding that withdrawing their services will have both “economic and business implications” for the country.
