Twenty girls are headpotters (kayayie) have received bicycles to facilitate their transportation to a new training center where they can now learn a trade in smock weaving.

Kofi Djebi Nimo poses with the girls
The intervention followed a Joy News story by Justice Baidoo who captured many young girls who carry heavy loads to make ends meet.
Many of the girls captured in the story also face a threat of being handed out for marriage.
Joy News’ Justice Baidoo told the story of how a former head porter, 30-year old Najat Abdul-Razak, returned to Tamale to begin the center that encourages other girls who travelled to the south as 'kayayie' to return home.
Even after returning to Tamale to learn the trade, many of them had the challenge of walking for hours from their homes to reach the center.
Head of Nationwide, Kofi DjebiNimo who made the presentation said: “I was moved by the stories of these vulnerable girls who had experienced so much pain in their young lives and I wanted to help make a change in my little way”.
