Mr Fernando Ventura, on Thursday said the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), has initiated excellent preventive measures, to detect and arrest persons carrying narcotic drugs.
Mr Ventura, leader of European Union (EU) team in Ghana to ascertain the capability of the airport to detect and arrest drug traffickers, informed journalists about the measure, when the group toured KIA facilities.
He said the airport would have a centre for the teaching of how to detect and arrest drug traffickers.
Mr Ventura said the tour was to enable the team learn about the strengths of the KIA's drug detection system and areas where the airport might need assistance in that area.
He said the tour formed part of a wider project to build capacity of airports all over the world in the combat against drug trafficking.
Mr Joe Badoe-Ansah, Minister of Aviation, said the Government of Ghana would ensure that the airport gained a reputation as a no-go area for drug traffickers.
Mr. George Scott, Chief Director at the Ministry of Aviation, Mr Simon Allotey, Director Genneral of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, and other senior officials of the Ministry of Aviation took part in the tour.
