The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has announced strict enforcement measures to ensure commercial drivers in the city comply with the newly approved 15% reduction in transport fares.
In a statement, the assembly noted its attention has been drawn to some commercial drivers flouting the directive issued by the national leadership of transport unions to cut down fares, effective May 24, 2025.
The assembly, together with the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in Kumasi, has resolved to deploy officers on major roads to enforce the new prices.

The Assembly reminded drivers that failing to implement the reduced fares constitutes a criminal offense punishable by law.
“We kindly request the public's cooperation in this endeavor as we strive to restore order and sanity on our roads,” portions of the statement read.
The Assembly is thus counting on the support of all commuters and transport operators to ensure smooth implementation of the directive and help restore fairness and discipline across Kumasi’s transport system.
